| | On Saturday I had the worst eye doctor's appointment I have experienced to date. My eyes have been slightly less irritable lately and I was hoping that I could get my prescription updated so that if I had to be wearing my glasses at least I would be able to see through them. No such luck. My left eye has suffered the brunt of this and I guess its taken its toll. "I can't give you glasses." There simply is no lens that can fix the vision in that eye. "The best I could do is maybe 20/40." I've got two new bottles of eye drops that I'm using every hour. My eye's still have a lot of healing to do and the hope is that in time the vision in the left eye will start to come back and match the vision in the right eye. I have to do these eyelid massages twice a day (for the rest of my life) because apparently some of the glands along my eye lid that are supposed to be lubricating my eye and helping the healing process aren't working. One of the bottles of eyedrops is apparently also going to become a "for life" staple of my routine. I'm practicing blinking so that it will be more effective when my glands start working again. I have to look away and consciously blink every time I read a line on a computer screen. I guess putting little pieces of plastic in your eyes every day for 13 years is bound to have an effect... I've got another appointment this Saturday. We're going to talk about new contact lens options for when my eyes are actually strong enough to attempt them again. Hopefully there will be some evidence of progress on the healing front. I don't know what will happen with the glasses. For now I'm just "tolerating them a little longer." I watched the super bowl without being able to read jersey numbers, the time on the clock, or the score. White blobs vs black blobs. |
